PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 3) - Quarterback Rob Blount was 15-for-25 passing for 185 yards and one touchdown, while running backs Darren Cappetta and Anthony Lazarus each posted two rushing scores, leading the 23 rd -ranked C.W. Post football team to a 48-6 victory in its season and Northeast-10 Conference opener at Pace.
The visiting Pioneers (1-0, 1-0 NE-10) scored the first 41 points of the contest, including 28 markers before halftime. After a season-opening three-and-out stand by the defense, wide out Chris Bone (7 rec., 109 yds.) reeled in a 19-yard touchdown pass from Blount, putting C.W. Post up 7-0 just 5:04 into the season.
Cappetta, whose rushing scores were the first of his collegiate career, doubled the score with a one-yard rushing jaunt with 1:47 left in the opening stanza, before putting the Pioneers up 21-0 with 8:58 remaining in the first half on a three-yard romp.
C.W. Post made the score 28-0 by halftime, when senior running back Adebayo Adedapo broke free on a 24-yard rushing touchdown after originally being stacked at the line with 41 seconds left. He finished with seven carries for 56 yards on the afternoon.
In the second half, Lazarus (13 carries, 94 yds.) scored a pair of third-quarter touchdowns early on to put the game out of reach at 41-0. The freshman first scored from four yards away around the right side 3:18 into the second half, before scoring on a 12-yard jaunt with 8:13 left in the quarter.
Pace (0-1, 0-1), who was limited to 35 yards rushing by last season's top rushing defense in Division II and to 89 yards overall, got on the board with 1:42 left in the third when quarterback Mike Timmerman ran in from three yards away to cut the Pioneers lead to 41-6.
C.W. Post freshman Josh Amaro scored his first collegiate touchdown with 2:28 left in the game, when the running back carried around the left side for a three-yard score.
The Pioneers defensive charge was led by converted tight end and defensive end Stephon Solomon , who notched 2.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and a 27-yard return on his first-career interception. Frank Kelly added two full sacks, while junior linebacker Matt Albanese added 2.5 tackles for loss.
Head coach Bryan Collins's Pioneers open up their home slate at Hickox Field next Saturday (Sept. 10), when C.W. Post welcomes No. 8 East Stroudsburg to Brookville , N.Y. , for a 12 Noon kick-off. The Warriors won on a last-second field goal Saturday afternoon, 23-21, over No. 12 Edinboro.
