BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 10) - Jimmy Terwilliger completed 20-of-32 passes for 546 yards and nine touchdowns Saturday afternoon at Hickox Field, as the East Stroudsburg football team, ranked No. 7 nationally in Division II in the latest AFCA Coaches' Poll, spoiled 22nd-ranked C.W. Post's home opener with a 66-49 non-conference victory.

The visiting Warriors (3-0) and the Pioneers (1-1) combined for 1,200 yards of total offense on the afternoon, with ESU garnering 672 yards from scrimmage. East Stroudsburg 's 66 points are the most ever scored by an opponent in Brookville, and C.W. Post's 49 points is the most it's ever scored in a losing effort.

C.W. Post senior quarterback Rob Blount had a stellar day in his own right, completing 16-of-25 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns. Additionally, the Inwood, N.Y. native rushed 20 times for 221 yards and a pair of scores. Though the NCAA confirmed that they do not have a record of this nature at this time, it is believed to be one of the few times that a player has rushed for and threw for 200-plus yards in the same game in college football history.

Both teams traded a pair of touchdowns to make the score 14-14 after one quarter of play. ESU started things off when Terwilliger hit Evan Prall (4 rec., 207 yds.) on a 37-yard pass 1:57 into the game, before Blount ran in from eight yards out to cap off a 10-play, 6:02 drive that went 66 yards to knot the score. Terwilliger countered with his first of three touchdown passes to Anthony Carfagno (6 rec., 115 yds.), this one a 17-yard strike, to put the visitors up by seven with 4:56 left in the first frame. Freshman Anthony Lazarus ( Brooklyn ) ran in with the first of his two, one-yard touchdowns on the day to tie the score at 14 with 18 seconds left in the quarter.

C.W. Post then took advantage of a Terwilliger interception and subsequent 47-yard return to the ESU 29 by Woody Aime ( Cambria Heights ). On the first play of the drive, and the second quarter, Blount went up top to Ryan Heller (Farmingdale; 6 rec., team-high 88 yds.) on a 29-yard scoring play, and the Pioneers held their only lead of the day at 21-14.

East Stroudsburg scored the final 17 points of the half, with Terwilliger knotting the game with 12:22 left on a 13-yard pass to Carfagno, before taking the lead for good with 7:35 remaining on a 29-yard pass to Tim Strenfel (5 rec., 149 yds., 3 TD). Mark Brubaker drained a 25-yard field goal as the first-half clock expired to put the visitors up 31-14.

Blount scrambled and ran in for a 60-yard score just 2:36 into the second half to pull the Pioneers within 31-28. But that was as close as C.W. Post would get for the rest of the day, as Terwilliger threw four touchdown passes of over 49-plus yards in the third quarter to distance the Warriors. C.W. Post did manage an 85-yard punt return by Chris Bone (Inwood) with 2:54 left in the quarter to cut the deficit to 52-35. However, Terwilliger threw a 51-yard screen pass to Carfagno 2:10 later to increase the lead back to 24 points.

In the fourth quarter, Lazarus (20 carries, 68 yds.), who has now scored a pair of touchdowns in each of his first two collegiate games, plunged in from one-yard away 1:08 into the frame to cut the ESU lead to 59-42. Strenfel pushed the Warriors' point total to 66 on a 34-yard reception with 2:27 to play, before Bone caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Blount with 44 seconds left in the game.

Head coach Bryan Collins and the Pioneers, who have won 20 of their last 22 games at Hickox Field (Oct. 9, 2004 - a 36-33 loss to Bentley), will look to remain undefeated in Northeast-10 Conference play next Saturday (Sept. 17), when they play host to Stonehill at 12 Noon. The visiting Skyhawks won a 17-13 home decision this afternoon against Pace, in the opening game in W.B. Mason Stadium history.
