Box Score
MANCHESTER, N.H. (Sept. 24) - Senior quarterback Rob Blount threw for four touchdowns and ran for two more Saturday afternoon at Grappone Stadium, as the C.W. Post football team remained perfect in Northeast-10 Conference play with a 73-17 victory at Saint Anselm.
The visiting Pioneers (3-1, 3-0 NE-10), whose 73 points are the second-most ever scored by the squad (75 – St. Peter's, 1973), fell behind to the Hawks (1-3, 0-3 NE-10) 4:32 into the game, when Corey Williams scored on an 80-yard pass from Dan Cohen to put Saint Anselm up, 7-0.
Blount (19-for-28, 234 yds.; 3 rushes, 46 yds.) knotted the score at 7-all when he found Chris Bone (4 rec., 78 yds., 2 TD) on a 30-yard pass play just 2:34 later. The former then found Bryce Stephens in the end zone with 4:44 to go in the quarter on a 13-yard scoring strike – Stephens's first touchdown with the Pioneers.
After St. Anselm pulled to within 14-10 on a 40-yard field goal by Michael Garcarz, CWP freshman sensation Anthony Lazarus (10 carries, career-high 182 yds.) ripped off his ninth touchdown run of the season – a 60-yard jaunt – at the end of the first quarter to put the Pioneers up by a 21-10 count.
C.W. Post, which has now won 10 straight NE-10 road games, continued its second-quarter dominance of the Hawks (200-14 all-time in the teams' seven meetings) by outscoring the hosts 35-7 to take a 56-17 lead into the locker room at halftime. After finding Bone on a 10-yard pass two minutes into the stanza, Blount ran in a 12-yard score with 8:45 to go before the break. Jeremy Boyle ran back his first collegiate interception for a 46-yard touchdown on St. Anselm's next possession, before Garcarz reeled in a 13-yard touchdown pass from Shane Dinagen with 4:51 to go. The Pioneers scored twice in the final two minutes of the half to account for the 39-point lead at intermission; once on a 40-yard Blount run with 1:56 to go, and again with 15 seconds remaining on a 22-yard pass to Ryan Heller.
Andrew Kroell, who set the C.W. Post single-game record with 10 PAT kicks on the afternoon, knocked home a 27-yard field goal 3:16 into the third quarter for a 59-17 Pioneers lead.
Jamel Ramsay returned a punt 51 yards for a touchdown with 11:46 remaining in the fourth quarter, before Darren Cappetta ran a fullback dive 55 yards for a score 80 seconds later.
The Pioneers amassed a season-high 666 yards of total offense, including 399 on the ground – also a season-best. C.W. Post's defense, led by 2.0 tackles for loss by both Jarrell Walker (one sack) and Pierre Delva, limited Saint Anselm to 41 rushing yards on 25 carries. Stephon Solomon added 1.5 tackles for loss and a fumble recovery, while Chris Bretton (three QB hurries) and Maurice Baker (2 QBH) chipped in with one sack apiece.
Head coach Bryan Collins and the Pioneers, who set a school record for points scored in consecutive games (129; 56 last week vs. Stonehill) will play host to Bryant next week, as C.W. Post's Homecoming game will kick-off at Hickox Field at 12 Noon.
