Blount, Lazarus Each Rush For 100-Plus Yards

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 1) - Senior quarterback Rob Blount was 17-for-29 passing for 258 yards with two touchdowns and an interception Saturday afternoon, while he and Anthony Lazarus rushed for 123 and 117 yards, respectively, as the C.W. Post football team had a successful Homecoming with a 37-15 victory over visiting Bryant in a Northeast-10 Conference game at Hickox Field.

Blount (Inwood) opened the scoring 6:35 into the first quarter when he dove inside the right pylon for a one-yard touchdown to put the Pioneers (4-1, 4-0 NE-10) up by a 7-0 count.

Following a 27-yard field goal by freshman Andrew Kroell (Baldwin) 5:20 later to increase the CWP advantage, the Bulldogs (3-2, 3-2 NE-10) cut their deficit to 10-6 when Justin Kix reeled in a 25-yard touchdown pass from Charles Granatell (14-of-22, 143 yds., TD, INT) with 10 seconds left in the opening stanza.

Jo-el Kimaiyo (Cambridge, Mass.) caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Blount 2:37 into the second quarter for the hosts, before Bryant's Sean Bergin drained a 21-yard field goal soon after, and the teams went into the locker room with the host Pioneers up by a 17-9 count.

Bryce Stephens (Oakland, Calif.) put the Pioneers up midway through the third quarter when he dove to catch a 24-yard touchdown pass from Blount to put C.W. Post up by 15 points.

Lazarus (S. Ozone Park), a freshman who has now scored a touchdown in each of his first five games, scored on a 59-yard jaunt 49 seconds into the quarter, pushing the Pioneers lead to 37-9.

Javien Eason (Jr. - Freeport) collected his first collegiate touchdown on a 31-yard interception return with 8:45 left in the game for the hosts, while James Hickey (7-for-14, 130 yards) found threw a 27-yard touchdown pass in the flat to Lorenzo Perry (18 car., 38 yds.; 6 rec., 96 yds.) for Bryant, with 7:43 to go.

The teams combined for 888 yards of total offense (CWP - 559; BRY - 329), while the Pioneers continued their ground dominance with 301 yards on 44 carries. C.W. Post held the ball for 35:29, and went 6-for-11 on thrid-down conversions.

Ryan Heller (Sr. - Farmingdale) caught five passes for a career-high 123 yards for the Pioneers, while defensively, junior Woody Aime (Cambria Heights) notched 2.0 tackles for loss. Fellow junior Stephon Solomon (Freeport) and senior Chris Bretton (Bethpage) each added 1.5 TFL.

Bryant's defense was led by a school-record-tying 16 tackles (one sack) by Greg Daniel.

Head coach Bryan Collins's C.W. Post squad now faces a huge match-up on the road next Friday night (Oct. 7), when the Pioneers travel to Waltham, Mass., for a 7 p.m. kick-off at perennial NE-10 contender Bentley. Last season's Northeast-10 co-champions enter the game with identical 4-0 records in conference play.
