Recently completing his seventh season as head coach of the Pioneers, Andreas Lindberg continues to develop the men’s soccer team into an East Coast Conference and NCAA Division II powerhouse program.
Over his seven years in Brookville, Lindberg has posted a 103-28-12 record, which includes an impressive 84-15-8 ledger since 2011. His overall coaching mark is 133-42-19 (.735 career winning percentage). Plus, he has guided 10 of his players to NSCAA All-America honors.
In 2015, LIU Post matched its success from the season before, posting a 15-3-3 overall record and and an East Coast Conference-best mark of 9-1. Lindberg's Pioneers returned to glory on both the conference and regional level, as his squad captured the ECC title and repeated as NCAA Division II East Region Champions. In postseason play, the green and gold outscored their opposition by an impressive count of 16-4, en route to reaching the national quarterfinal round for the second time in as many years.
Lindberg earned his second-consecutive NSCAA East Region Coach of the Year nod, while also mentoring the ECC Offensive Player (Per Forgaard), Goalkeeper (Jesper Malmstrom) and Rookie of the Year (Charlie Ledula). Additionally, Forgaard was tabbed as the D2CCA East Region Player of the Year and garnered All-America distinction from the NSCAA and the Division 2 Conference Commissioner's Association.
Lindberg led the Pioneers to their best season in program history in 2014. The green and gold went 16-5-2 and were the ECC regular-season champions yet again. Lindberg's squad appeared in the NCAA Tournament, where the team knocked off defending national champion Southern New Hampshire in penalty kicks to advance to the East Region Final. There, the Pioneers defeated Merrimack by a 2-0 scoreline to win the program's first-ever East Region championship. LIU Post was one of the last eight teams remaining in the NCAA Tournament, falling to eventual national champion Charleston (W. Va.) in the national quarterfinals.
In addition, Lindberg was named the East Region Coach of the Year and tutored two of his players to the tune of NSCAA All-America nominations. The win over Merrimack gave Lindberg his 88th career win as head coach of the Pioneers, which ties him with Paul Riley for most wins all-time by a coach of the LIU Post men's soccer program.
In 2013, LIU Post, under the tutelage of Lindberg, had a banner year. The Pioneers tied the program mark for wins (18), earned a No.1 ranking in the NSCAA Division II Poll, and captured an East Coast Conference Championship for a second-straight season. They also won their fourth ECC regular-season crown in five years, and claimed a third-consecutive NCAA Division II Tournament berth.
In addition, Lindberg, a four-time ECC Coach of the Year honoree, mentored four All-America selections in 2013, one of whom was CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year, Daktronics National Player of the Year, and ECC Player of the Year Eivind Austboe, who went on a tear for 58 points (24 G, 10 A) after rebounding from a season-ending concussion a season earlier. Eirik Bjoernoe, the ECC Defensive Player of the Year, Jonathon Watkin and Per Forgaard garnered All-America recognition as well.
Lindberg led the 2012 Pioneers to one of the finest seasons in school history, as the team finished with a program-best 17-3-1 record and an NCAA Second Round appearance. LIU Post swept the ECC major awards, and was ranked in the NSCAA Top-25 for much of the season, as high as No. 1 in the nation at one point before finishing 12th in the final rankings. Furthermore, the green and gold scored an average of 3.47 goals per game, which was tops in Division II.
2011 saw the Pioneers advance to the ECC Championships for the second year in a row, where they were eliminated by eventual champion Dowling in a 1-1 contest that was decided by penalty kicks. LIU Post finished 2010 with a 7-8-2 record.
Lindberg had a standout first season that included an ECC Championship and a 12-5-2 record, along with an East Coast Conference Coach of the Year honor.
2009’s season’s success was a five-win turnaround from the previous year, and saw the Pioneers advance to the championship game in the ECC Tournament, defeating Dowling in penalty kicks to earn the title.
Under Lindberg's tutelage, the Pioneers have also become a model of academic sucess and community leadership, as his last three squads were recipients of the NSCAA Team Academic Award. Most recently, in 2013, LIU Post sported the second-highest GPA in the nation at 3.49. The men's soccer team was also bestowed the LIU Post Pioneer Spirit Award for service to their community in 2011.
Lindberg was named the 12th coach in program history in April 2009 after previously serving as head coach of the men’s soccer program at LIU-Southampton from 2002-05. Lindberg posted a cumulative 30-14-7 record during his three-year tenure at Southampton. He led the Colonials to the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship in 2002 and was a runner-up in the ECAC Tournament.
Lindberg also assisted current LIU Post women’s head coach, Mark Dawson, with the Southampton women’s program in leading the Colonials to the second round of the 2004 NCAA Division II Championships as well as an ECAC Championship.
Lindberg is the Vice President of Business Development for Future Stars, a sports management and recreational company with sports camps and indoor facilities across the Tri-State area.
In addition to his duties as LIU Post men’s soccer head coach, Lindberg served as a head coach at the Met Oval Developmental Academy, a member of the USSF Developmental Academy. He has been a member of the staff since 2007 and is responsible for coaching and training top-level 15-18 year olds in the tri-state area and communicating with United States National Team scouts.
Lindberg was also the head coach of the Brooklyn Knights of the USL Professional Development League. He is certified by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) with an Advanced National Diploma, and has a US Soccer Federation ‘A’ License.
Lindberg graduated with his bachelor’s degree in Business from Southampton College in 2002, and received his M.B.A. from LIU Post in 2004.
