Melissa Suarez, a former all-conference defender for Mark Dawson at both LIU-Southampton and C.W. Post, joins Dawson’s coaching staff for her first season as a Pioneer assistant.
Suarez attended Southampton and played for Dawson’s Colonials from 2002-04, and earned First Team All-NYCAC honors in 2004. When Southampton closed its doors, Suarez was one of several Colonial athletes that made the move over and competed for the Pioneers. She played her senior year in C.W. Post green and gold and again was named to the All-NYCAC First Team.
After graduation, Suarez played one season with the Lady Rough Riders, a semi-professional team based on Long Island. She began her coaching career as an assistant at Queens College, where she stayed for three seasons, helping the Knights to build up the women’s soccer program.
Suarez attained her bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology in 2006, followed by a certification in secondary education in Biology from Queens in 2009. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in secondary education in Biology from Stony Brook.
Suarez currently works in various capacities with high school students as a mentor and tutor and is involved with several different study abroad and travel adventure programs. She resides in New Hyde Park, N.Y.
