Omar King enters his sixth season with the Pioneers and works with the running backs.
     
In 2009, freshman Thomas Beverly was named ECAC and PSAC East Rookie of the Year after leading the PSAC in overall rushing yards with 1,094 and finished second in rushing yards per game with 99.5.
     
Prior to LIU Post, King was a running backs coach at Iona College, where he helped guide Metro Atlantic Conference Player of the Year Dane Samuel, who rushed for 698 yards and four touchdowns in 2006.  King also coached former Gael RB Nat Modica to a MAAC Football Offensive Rookie of the Year honor in 2003 while standout Rudy Arcara became just the third player to record a 1,000+ yard rushing season in 2004.
     
In 2008, King was selected by the NCAA Diversity and Inclusion Committee to participate in its NCAA Football Coaches Academy. The mission of the Academy is to assist ethnic minority football coaches with career advancement through skills enhancement, networking and exposure opportunities while raising awareness regarding the substantial pool of talented ethnic minority coaches.
     
Prior to Iona, King spent three seasons at Holy Cross H.S. in Flushing, N.Y., serving as both running backs coach and offensive coordinator.
     
King was a 1998 graduate of Hofstra University, lettering at running back for two seasons. 
           
He also served as the GED coordinator at the Rikers Island Educational Facility, helping to train and prepare at-risk students for their graduation equivalency diploma. He and his wife, Catherine,  and their two children, Dajhanea and Jamar, reside in Central Islip, N.Y.
