Jim Gibbons enters his 20th season as special teams coach in 2018 and fifth as defensive line coach. He is also in his fourth year with the Pioneer linebacking corps.

Additionally, Gibbons serves as LIU Post’s field scheduling coordinator, and the athletic department’s community service liaison.

Under his tutelage, the special teams unit has become a potent force, returning punts and touchdowns for scores, blocking kicks and forcing fumbles.

In 2014, Gibbons assisted the Pioneers in capturing the Northeast-10 Conference title and securing a bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament.

Furthermore, he mentored David Sumter to NE-10 Defensive Lineman of the Year accolades. Overall, the Pioneers' defensive front four accounted for 28.5 of their 31 sacks in 2014, which ranked second in the league.

At the high school level, Gibbons coached from 1990-94 at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he helped his squads win a pair of Class B New York City Championships. He then moved on to Westhampton Beach, before arriving at LIU Post.

Gibbons resides in Massapequa, N.Y. with his wife, Kerri, and the couple’s three children: daughter, Brianna, and sons, Shane and Garrett.
