Track and Field
Michael Hoses was one of the most prolific middle distance runners in LIU Post track & field history. Hoses spent four seasons with the Pioneers from 1968 through 1972. During his career, he was a four-time All-American, earning two individual honors during the outdoor season and one during the indoor season. Along with the individual accolades, Hoses was a member of a Pioneer relay team which earned All-American honors during the outdoor season.
Hoses broke onto the national stage as a freshman when he claimed his first All-American recognition in the 880-yard run in 1969, and repeated in the same event in 1970 as a sophomore. During his junior season, Hoses helped the Pioneers earn All-American honors as part of the One-Mile Relay team, before rounding out his career with his final All-American honor during the indoor 880-yard run.
During the 1971 NCAA University Division meet, Hoses finished third overall in the 880-yard run, marking the highest finish by an LIU Post track athlete.
The LIU Post record book lists Hoses’ name multiple times, as his indoor 800-meter run and outdoor 880-yard run records still stand. Hoses was also a part of program record relay teams in the one-mile relay, sprint medley relay, and distance medley relay.
Hoses graduated from LIU Post in 1972 with a B.A. in Sociology, and eventually furthered his education at Stony Brook University and the University of Michigan. After earning his Jurus Doctor degree at Michigan, Hoses went on to begin a very successful career in law, including working for the Supreme Court of the state of New Mexico.
