BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 28, 2007) – Junior midfielder John Nolan scored a goal and added an assist to propel the University of New Haven past C.W. Post, 2-1, in an East Coast Conference men’s soccer match Sunday morning.
 
New Haven, which clinched a spot in the upcoming conference tournament, improved its record to 6-10-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the conference.  The loss ended a four-game unbeaten streak for the Pioneers as they finished their season with an overall record of 5-10-2 and a 3-6-0 mark in the conference.
 
The Chargers got out to an early start when they scored their first goal in the second minute of the game when Nolan flicked a shot into the right corner from five yards out.
 
New Haven’s second goal came in the 30th minute when junior midfielder Jessey Fernandez headed the ball into the top right corner off a free kick from Nolan.
 
The Pioneers cut the deficit to 2-1 when sophomore midfielder Mike Lo Manto (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) shot a 25-yard shot into the right corner.
 
C.W. Post completed the game outshooting the visiting team, 17-16 and held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. 
 
Junior goalkeeper James St. Hilaire made eight saves in goal to preserve the lead for the Chargers.  C.W. Post’s Joel Sanger (Mullica Hill, N.J.) stopped six shots in goal.
