Men's Soccer Shuts Out NYIT 2-0, Earning First Conference Win

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 11, 2008)- The C.W. Post Pioneers captured their first conference win as they shut out ECC rival the NYIT Bears 2-0 Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers improved their overall record to 6-6 while the Bears fell to 5-6-1.
The first half remained scoreless for both teams. Freshman
David Carlsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) put the Pioneers on the board five minutes into the second half, scoring his second goal of the season. Carlsson headed the ball off a service from teammate

Carlsson's goal proved to be just the motivation the Pioneers needed to pull out the win. Sophomore captain Joe O'Rourke (London, England) scored at the 52:24 mark, giving C.W. Post a two goal cushion and ensuring the win. The goal was O'Rourke's first of the season, improving to one goal and two assists overall.
Freshman goalkeeper
Demetrios Touros (Astoria, N.Y.) made two saves in net for the Pioneers, tallying the win and earning his second shutout of the season. Touros improved his overall record to 3-0, making five saves for C.W. Post this season. Goalkeeper Cosimo D'Agostino tallied two saves for NYIT, dropping his personal record to 4-6-0.
Head Coach Dieter Ficken's Pioneers will be back in action October 15 as they host ECC opponent Queens College at 4 p.m.
