Men's Soccer Shuts Out Mercy, 3-0

Three different players found the back of the net as men's soccer rolled to a 3-0 victory over the Mavericks of Mercy College on Tuesday afternoon.

The Pioneers are now 7-7-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the East Coast Conference, while Mercy is 1-12-1 and 0-5-1 in the conference. 

Julian Escobar (Hicksville, N.Y.) got the Pioneers on the board in the 14th minute as he found a rebound in front of the goal and sent a shot into the right crease of the net for a 1-0 lead.

James Stevenson (Brighton, England) scored the second goal of the game off a corner kick, as he took a long shot from 20 yards out that found the back fo the net.

A 15-yard smash by Eric Vasquez (Flushing, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for the Pioneers on the afternoon.  

Demetrios Touros (Astoria, N.Y.) made one save in the first half and Ayrton Haddad (Scarsdale, N.Y.) made one in the second half as the two combined for the shutout.  

Mercy held a 10-9 edge in shots and a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

The Pioneers return to action on Sunday, Oct. 26 at noon as they host Bloomfield College.
