Women's Soccer Takes Third Place In Latest National Rankings
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (Oct. 21, 2008)- The National Soccer Coaches Association released its National rankings Tuesday afternoon, moving C.W. Post up to the third place spot. Previously, C.W. Post had been ranked fourth for two weeks in a row. The Pioneers remain the only ECC team to be ranked nationally.
The current increase in rankings comes after C.W. Post went 2-0 last week. On October 14 the Pioneers shut out ECC conference rival St. Thomas Aquinas 7-0. Senior Maria Sonnerborg (Bjarred, Sweden) scored four goals to propel her team past its conference opponent. Saturday afternoon the Pioneers tallied another win as they downed neighboring rival NYIT. Again, Sonnerborg, along with teammate Tove Erikkson (Helsingborg, Sweden), each notched a goal to push the Pioneers ahead of the Bears, 2-0.
The Pioneers retake the field Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. as they travel to Flushing, N.Y. to take on conference rival Queens College.
