No. 9 Field Hockey Drops 5-3 Contest To No. 5 East Stroudsburg
EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 22, 2008) - East Stroudsburg sophomore Kayla Cilenti scored four goals to lead East Stroudsburg University past ninth-ranked field hockey, 5-3, in PSAC East field hockey action at Whitenight Field on Tuesday afternoon.
ESU (12-7, 4-3) outshot the Pioneers (9-7, 2-5) 19-9 and held a 13-5 advantage in corners.
Cilenti's first goal, 8:33 into the game, was assisted by junior Kahla Doran and senior Kierstyn DeNardo, and Doran also assisted on Cilenti's second goal with 12:15 left until halftime.
Monica Gombita gave the Warriors a 2-0 lead before junior forward Krystal Napolitano (Coram, N.Y.) put the Pioneers on the board midway through the first period. The Pioneers trailed 3-1 at intermission.
Sophomore forward Amanda Nann (Hamburg, N.J.) pulled the Pioneers within 3-2 six minutes into the second half, but Cilenti converted on a pair of corners a minute apart for her third and fourth goals of the game to give the Warriors a 5-2 advantage.
Napolitano scored her second goal of the game for C.W. Post with 15 minutes left, but the Pioneers wouldn't get any closer.
Sophomore goalkeeper Cortney Colern (Barker, N.Y.) made four saves in goal.
The Pioneers return to action on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. as they take on Bloomsburg in the final game of the regular season at home on Hickox Field.
