BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 29, 2008) -
Senior striker Julian Escobar (Hicksville, N.Y.) scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season on the team's Senior Day, as the Pioneers ended the season on a winning note, defeating Concordia by a 2-0 score in men's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon.

The team honored Escobar, the lone Pioneer senior, in a halftime celebration.

The Pioneers end the season with a 9-7-1 overall record and a 3-4-1 slate in the ECC.  Concordia's record moved to 5-9-3 and 0-5-3 in the ECC.

Junior defender Kris Frick (Bermuda) scored the first goal for the Pioneers in the 25th minute as freshman Angel Velez (Central Islip, N.Y.) took a shot from 25 yards out that slid away from Concordia keeper Anthony McCarthy, but Frick was right there to finish and give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.

Playing in his final game in Green and Gold, Escobar found himself one-on-one with McCarthy in the 55th minute.  He beat the keeper on the dribble and sent a five-yard shot into the empty net for the insurance tally.

Ayrton Haddad (Scarsdale, N.Y.) earned the win and improved to 5-1-0 on the season, while McCarthy made two saves in the loss.

The Pioneers outshot the Clippers by a 17-6 count and held a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.
