BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (June 16, 2008) - Deirdre Moore (C.W. Post 1996) was named C.W. Post head women's basketball coach by Director of Athletics Bryan Collins on Monday.  A former player at C.W. Post, Moore becomes the seventh head coach in the 33-year history of the program.

“We are excited to have Deirdre Moore as our new head women's basketball coach,” C.W. Post Athletic Director Bryan Collins said. “She has been loyal and dedicated to her alma mater, and very deserving of this position. She has a great rapport with our present players and has shown a great ability to recruit student-athletes at C.W. Post. She recruited our two most recent 1,000 point scorers, Basimah Thompson and Thalia Jackson. She also has great understanding of the University's and Athletic Department's mission statement, and is committed to achieving athletic and academic success.”

“I am extremely excited to be the head women's basketball coach here at C.W. Post,” Moore said. “As an alumnus, C.W. Post has always held a special place in my heart.   I appreciate the confidence of the returning players, Bryan Collins, and the whole athletic department in fulfilling this position. This is truly a blessing and an honor for me.”

Moore is no stranger to the program, having played her collegiate basketball career for the Pioneers and having spent the past 11 seasons as an assistant, working with the backcourt.  The Pioneers completed their 2007-08 season with a 17-12 overall record and 13-7 mark in the East Coast Conference while advancing to the semifinals of the conference tournament for the second straight year.  In 2006-07, C.W. Post was one win shy of advancing to the NCAA tournament after advancing to the conference final and posted an overall 18-12 record.  During the 2000-01 season, the Pioneers posted a 19-8 overall record and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the second time in the program's history.

The Elmont, N.Y., resident was a point guard during her playing days for the Pioneers between 1992-96, picking up 276 assists - good for eighth place on the team's all-time list.

Moore, a '96 graduate with a degree in pre-engineering/math and physics, has been employed in the Queens School District for the past 11 years as a mathematics special education teacher. She is currently working towards earning two master's degrees, one in electrical engineering and one in math education. In addition to her involvement with numerous camps and clinics as well and community outreach programs, she has been involved with the Empire State games since 2000, coaching three different open teams in the summer competition. She has also lent her expertise to the C.W. Post Mathematics and Physics departments, serving as a tutor.
