No. 15 Women's Soccer Runs Past Assumption, 2-1

WORCESTER, Mass. (Aug. 31, 2008)
– The C.W. Post women's soccer team won its second straight contest when it defeated Assumption College, 2-1, Sunday afternoon as part of the Nike-Crowne Plaze Friendlies tournament.
 
Following the tournament, sophomore defender Jessie Gianatti (Southington, Conn.) sophomore defender Anna Svensson (Stockholm, Sweden) and sophomore midfielder Ivana Babic (Haninge, Sweden) were named by the coaches to the all-tournament team.
 
The Pioneers scored the first goal in the seventh minute when junior midfielder Lindsey Nick (Hauppauge, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal.
 
C.W. Post added an additional goal 10 minutes later when Babic found the back of the net on a pass from senior forward Maria Sonnerborg (Bjarred, Sweden) at 16:29.
 
Assumption got on the board in the 58th minute when Kirsten Chirichetti scored with assists from Katie DiCioccio and Kelley DeWalt.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Allie Weiser (Grand Island, N.Y.) made two stops in goal to preserve the win while Lauren Keating also made two saves for the Greyhounds. Assumption outshot the Pioneers, 8-7, in the game.
 
C.W. Post will play at Philadelphia University on Sept. 6 .
