Men's Soccer Wins Second Straight, Defeats New Haven 1-0

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 13, 2008) - An own goal by the University of New Haven Chargers in the 54th minute gave men's soccer a 1-0 advantage, and they held on for the win, defeating the Chargers in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon in West Haven, Conn.
The win is the second for the Pioneers in as many games, as they improve to 2-3 overall. The loss drops the Chargers to 2-3 overall.
Julian Escobar (Hicksville, N.Y.), coming off a hat trick against Nyack three days ago, placed on shot on goal that deflected off a Charger defender for the only goal of the game, as the teams were an even 10-10 in shots and 2-2 on corner kicks.
Pioneer goalkeeper
Demetrios Touros (Astoria, N.Y.) made two saves to pick up his first collegiate win between the pipes. Charger counterpart James Hilaire made seven saves in the net, respectively.
The Pioneers will look to continue their winning ways as they travel to The College of New Jersey on Sept. 17 for a 3 p.m. matchup.
