BROOKVILLE, N.Y.  (Sept. 14, 2008) –
Kutztown University senior forward Lyndsay Butler notched a hat trick and sophomore forward Abbey Sheeler scored another two goals as the eighth-ranked Golden Bears offensive pressure handed ninth-ranked field hockey a 5-1 defeat on Sunday afternoon.
The Pioneers' record now stands at 4-1-0 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC. Kutztown improves to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the PSAC.
C.W. Post took an early lead as Kaurey Foley (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) sent a pass to senior forward Amber Limanni (Mickleton, N.J.), who shot into the left corner of the cage for a 1-0 Pioneer lead in the 16th minute of play.
However, Kutztown came back less than ten minutes later with a goal of their own, Butler's first of the day, and knotted the score and one apiece.
With under one minute remaining in the first half, the Golden Bears had a fast break into the circle and Butler took a pass from Kelly Healey, sending it to the right of Pioneer keeper Cortney Colern (Barker, N.Y.) for a 2-1 halftime lead.
The Pioneers did not relent in the second half, equaling Kutztown University with four second-half shots apiece, but the Golden Bears were able to tack on three more goals, one from Butler and two from Sheeler, as they handed the Pioneers their first defeat of the season.
Kutztown held a 9-7 edge in shots and a 14-10 edge in penalty corners, as goalkeepers Emily Falko and Melissa Watson combined for three saves in the win.
Pioneer goalkeeper Colern posted two saves in the cage.
C.W. Post takes to the road as they travel to Mercyhurst on Sept. 19, for a 3 p.m. matchup. The next home game  for the Pioneers is Sept. 23, when they host East Stroudsburg in a 4 p.m. contest.
