BROOKVILLE, N.Y.  (Sept. 20, 2008) –
Senior attacker Julian Escobar (Hicksville, N.Y.) and junior defender James Stevenson (Brighton, England) each scored a goal and notched an assist as the Pioneers earned a tough-fought 2-0 victory over Briarcliffe College on Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers improve to 4-3 overall while Briarcliffe slips to 3-5.

After a scoreless first half, Stevenson got the Pioneers on the board, in the 63rd minute, when he headed a corner kick from Escobar into the left side of the net for a 1-0 Pioneer lead.

Just eight minutes later, Stevenson returned the favor as he sent a pass to Escobar just ouside the 25.  Escobar beat a defender to his left and sent a 15-yard shot past Briarcliffe keeper Steven Diaz, scoring his fourth goal of the season and giving the Pioneers an insurance goal.

Pioneer keeper Ayrton Haddad made two saves in earning the shutout.  Diaz made five between the pipes for Briarcliffe.

The Pioneers held a 13-5 edge in shots and each team took two corners.

Head coach Dieter Ficken and the Pioneers will look to continue their winning ways as they take on Bridgeport on Saturday, Sept. 27 for a 1 p.m. matchup.
