Men's Soccer Falls To Bridgeport, 5-0

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 27, 2008) – The Pioneers could not overcome a five goal deficit, as they took nine shots on the day but could not find the back of the net in a 5-0 East Coast Conference loss to the Bridgeport Purple Knights on a rain-soaked Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers' record evens at 4-4-0 overall and 0-1 in conference play, while Bridgeport improves to 7-2-0 and 1-0 in the ECC.
Henrik Karlsson scored on a penalty kick five minutes into the game to give the Purple Knights a 1-0 lead, and Bridgeport did not look back, as Gilbert Bayonne's shot into the upper left corner in the 20th minute doubled the Purple Knight's lead.
A Patric Brundin goal gave Bridgeport a 3-0 lead, and a Pioneer own goal followed by a LeRoux Lothian unassisted goal rounded out the scoring for the Purple Knights.
The Pioneers were outshot by a 12-9 count, and took four corners to Bridgeport's six.

Demetrios Touros made two saves in his 25 minutes of play, and freshman defender
Dan Slane made a valiant effort in goal with two saves in replacing the injured Touros.
Bridgeport's Mike Tester made three saves in goal for the Purple Knights, respectively.
The Pioneers take on Dowling at home on October 1, as they continue their ECC play and notch a win in conference play.
