Women's Basketball Falls To Bridgeport, 80-56

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Jan. 14, 2009) –
Senior Whitney Murrer (Richmond, Va.) scored a team-high 15 points while freshman Noelle Pawlicki (Staten Island, N.Y.) added 14 points Wednesday night at the University of Bridgeport, but it wasn't enough for the C.W. Post women's basketball team, which dropped a 80-57, East Coast Conference decision to host Bridgeport.

Bridgeport improves 3-10 overall and 3-2 in the ECC, while C.W. Post falls to 5-7 and 3-2 in conference play.
The Purple Knights finished the game shooting .500 from the field (30-of-60).  The Pioneers shot .354 (23-of-65) from the field.  Bridgeport out-rebounded the Pioneers, 40-36.
 
Shannon Malone led all players with 19 points and 13 rebounds, and Siobhan Moore also added 19 points, shooting 9-for-12 from the floor. Julia Busalt chipped in with 18 points including a 4-for-6 mark from behind the arc. 
 
The Pioneers fell behind early on a jumped by Siobhan Moore at 13:53 (10-7), but kep the game close and cut the lead to only one point after a trey by Pawlicki at 7:59 (20-19). A lay-up by Pawlicki two minutes later at 5:44 put the Pioneers up by four, (25-21), and the Pioneers hung onto the lead for the remainder of the half, heading into the break with a 37-30 lead.
 
The Pioneers traded a quick two buckets with the Purple Knights to open the half, but maintained their lead until Bridgeport went on a 12-3 run that saw Malone tie the game at 44-44 on a free throw at 14:20. A jumper by Siobhan Moore gave UB the lead with 13:09 remaining, and they quickly pushed the lead to nine points after another trey by Busalt at 9:56. The Pioneers were unable to get any consistent offense mounted the rest of the way as they fell by a final score of 80-56.
 
Alyssa Lombardi (New Fairfield, Conn.) added 10 rebounds for the Pioneers, who also got five assists from Gina Catherall (Bayside, N.Y.)
 
The Pioneers look to rebound from the loss as they play NYIT on Saturday at the Pratt Recreation Center for a 1 p.m. matchup.
