Murrer Notches 24 Points, Propelling Women's Basketball Past NYIT, 52-48

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 17, 2009) - Senior forward Whitney Murrer (Richmond, Va.) led C.W. Post with a season-high 24 points to propel the Pioneers past neighboring rival New York Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon, 52-48.
The win improves the Pioneers record to 6-7 overall and 3-1 in the ECC, while the Bears fall to 2-13 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
C.W. Post opened up the afternoon outscoring NYIT 6-0 in the first five minutes of play. The Bears rallied back, putting 12 points on the board in three minutes to cut the Pioneers advantage to one point. The two teams continued to trade baskets for the remainder of the half, tying the score at 22-all to finish out the first half.
NYIT opened up the second half with a three point basket from junior forward Madison Robertson. Murrer opened up a frenzy for C.W. Post, scoring 13 of her 24 points for the game within the first seven minutes of the second half. She registered a double-double, as she finished up the afternoon with 12 rebounds to go along with 24 points.
Freshman forward Noelle Pawlicki continued to keep the Pioneers ahead, hitting three foul shots and a three-pointer to keep the Bears at bay. Pawlicki tallied a total of 15 points and five rebounds, nailing 2-4 from the three-point arc. Sophomore forward Alyssa Lombardi (New Fairfield, Conn.) added 10 rebounds and one assist for the Pioneers.
C.W. Post allowed four points in the last five minutes of play to keep themselves ahead of its conference rival. Jasmine Moore (Bronx, N.Y.) went 3-4 from the foul line, earning herself five points to add to the Pioneers win.
NYIT's Latoya Anderson and Madison Robertson led the Bear's with 13 points apiece. Anderson also added four assists for the Bears while Robertson led her team with six rebounds.
C.W. Post is back in action at Molloy College for an East Coast Conference matchup January 21. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
