Napolitano, Nann Lead Field Hockey Past IUP, 3-2

INDIANA, Pa. (Oct. 10, 2009) – The C.W. Post field hockey team jumped out to a 2-0 first half lead and held on to defeat Indiana University 3-2 on Saturday morning in a PSAC crossover game.
C.W. Post improves to 5-7 overall, while the Crimson Hawks slip to 4-7.
Senior forward Krystal Napolitano (Coram, N.Y.) teamed up with sophomore Helene Bruckner (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) to score the first goal, at 17:22 in the first half, giving C.W. Post the lead.
Ten minutes later, at 27:44, Sydney Hagen (Exeter, N.H.) found junior forward Amanda Nann (Hamburg, N.J.) for her team-leading ninth goal of the season, and a 2-0 C.W. Post lead.
IUP answered with a second half goal at 44:21 by Caroline van Tulder that cut the lead to one, but Bruckner found Napolitano for the second time as Napolitano slammed home what would prove to be the game winner at 50:22.
IUP's Jenn Metzler scored at 52:34 but C.W. Post closed out the rest of the half with shutout defense as they earned the victory.
The Crimson Hawks held a 14-8 edge in shots and 6-2 edge in penalty corners, but junior goalkeeper Cortney Colern (Barker, N.Y.) made seven saves in earning the victory.
IUP netminder Renee Lustenhouwer made two saves in the cage.
C.W. Post will take on Bellarmine tomorrow, at IUP, in a noon matchup.
