Volleyball Takes Two From Merrimack (3-1) And Franklin Pierce (3-0)

– C.W. Post took two wins Saturday afternoon against Merrimack College (3-1) and Franklin Pierce University (3-0) as part of a tri-match hosted by Franklin Pierce.
 
The wins improve C.W. Post's overall record to 11-8 as the Pioneers have now won four straight matches.
 
Against Merrimack (16-5), the Pioneers won the first set 25-19 before surrendering to the Warriors in the second set, 17-25. C.W. Post closed out the match winning the next two sets, 25-13 and 25-16.
 
Junior setter Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.), who was deemed the match's Fighting Spirit by head coach Shellane Ogoshi, registered 45 assists in the four-set match.
 
Junior outside hitter Lauren Brown (Mount Gilead, N.C.) led the Pioneers with 13 kills and 10 digs as well as four serving aces and three block assists. Freshman middle hitter Kirsten Taylor (South Pasadena, Calif.) added 12 kills with 10 digs and added three defensive blocks. Freshman outside hitter Geony Fisher (Goodyear, Ariz.) added 10 kills while junior outside hitter Marilena Guadagnini (Huntington Beach, Calif.) proved clutch with 20 defensive digs.
 
For Merrimack, freshman outside hitter Shaunda Forcier (Gonda, N.H.) recorded a team-high 10 kills while junior outside hitter Molly Cindric (Westlake Village, Calif.) added nine kills and 12 digs.
 
In all, the Pioneers outscored the Warriors, 55-37, in kills and benefited from 24 Merrimack miscues.
 
Against Franklin Pierce (5-15), the Pioneers swept the Ravens in three sets, 25-22, 25-18 and 25-21.
 
Taylor had another fine performance with 11 kills while adding two service aces, five digs and two block assists. Senior outside hitter Kerri Heitner (Wantagh, N.Y.) was named the Fighting Spirit for the match with nine kills and three blocks on defense. Junior setter Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.) contributed 35 assists.
 
Senior outside hitter Katie Ristow (Miami, Fla.) registered a team-high nine kills for the Ravens.
 
C.W. Post returns to action Oct. 13 with an East Coast Conference matchup against the University of Bridgeport.
