Napolitano, Offense Powers Field Hockey Past Southern Connecticut, 3-0
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Oct. 21, 2009) – Senior forward Krystal Napolitano (Coram, N.Y.) broke a scoreless tie in the first half and the C.W. Post Pioneers added two more in the second half to defeat Southern Connecticut State University, 3-0, in a non-conference field hockey clash on Jess Dow Field.
The win improves C.W. Post to 7-9 overall and 6-2 against non-conference opponents this season. Southern Connecticut drops to 6-12 overall.
Napolitano's 10th goal of the season was scored in the 25th minute out in front of the goal on a pass from junior forward Amanda Nann (Hamburg, N.J.) to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead at the half.
The Pioneers' second goal would come 28 seconds into the second half when freshman midfielder Mia Paltrineri (Middletown, Del.) pushed the ball across the plane on a rebound shot out front.
Sophomore midfielder Amanda Miller (Newtown, N.J.) scored the third goal of the game in the 47th minute from the middle circle on a quick pass from Napolitano.
C.W. Post outshot Southern Connecticut 16-11. The Owls held a 6-4 advantage in penalty corners.
The Pioneers close out their season on Saturday, Oct. 24 against PSAC East opponent Kutztown University at 2 p.m.
