Shoshi's Last Minute Goal Leads Men's Soccer Past Bridgeport, 1-0

BRIDGEPORT, N.Y. (Nov. 6, 2009) –
C.W. Post graduate student Jeton Shoshi (East Hampton, N.Y.) scored the game winner with 1:32 remaining in regulation, as the third-seeded men's soccer team took a 1-0 decision from second-seeded Bridgeport in East Coast Conference Men's Soccer Championship action on Friday night.
C.W. Post improves to 12-5-1 overall, while Bridgeport slips to 10-5-3. The Pioneers advance to Sunday's Championship match against Dowling, a 5-1 winner over Queens. The game will be held at NYIT on President's Field at 2 p.m.
The teams played a scoreless first half, with each team having their scoring chances, but strong defensive efforts by both teams kept the score at 0-0.
After almost 43 minutes of scoreless play in the second half, the game looked to be headed into overtime, but C.W. Post continued to apply offensive pressure late in the half, and it finally paid off as Andreas Jansson (Tyreso, Sweden) sent a cross into the center of the box, where it found the foot of Shoshi, who booted it home for the game-winner.
Pioneer graduate goalkeeper Shane Flanagan (Dublin, Ireland) made four stops in goal, while UB counterpart Milos Suljagic stopped 10 shots.
The Pioneers outshot Bridgeport 18-12 and held an 8-6 edge in corner kicks.
