SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (Dec. 16, 2009) The Puerto Rico Soccer Federation has invited sophomore men's soccer standout Angel Velez (Central Islip, N.Y.) to the U21 National Team invite-only tryouts, being held January 2–10 at the Olympic Training facilities in Salinas, Puerto Rico.

The tryouts will be the first preparatory camp for the team's most important competition of the year, which is the Central American and Caribbean Games to be held in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico in July 2010. This international tournament is very prestigious, as it will host the U21 teams from countries such as Mexico, Honduras, Colombia, Costa Rica, Venezuela, and Cuba, among others.

Velez played in 17 games in 2009 with four starts, notching an assist, in helping the Pioneers a 12-5-1 record, a tie for the regular season East Coast Conference Title, and an East Coast Conference Tournament Championship.
