Aiken Scores 20 As Women's Basketball Cruises Past Dowling, 83-76

– C.W. Post boasted four players with double figures in scoring to defeat Dowling College, 83-76, in an East Coast Conference women's basketball clash Wednesday evening at the Pratt Recreation Center.
 
C.W. Post wins its second straight conference contest to improve to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in conference play. The loss drops Dowling to 3-3 overall and 0-3 in the ECC.
  
Junior forward Janea Aiken (St. Albans, N.Y.) led all scorers with 20 points on 5 of 10 shooting from field goal range. Aiken was 9-for-10 from the line and pulled down six rebounds.
 
The Pioneers trailed 16-14 until freshman forward Nicole Marciniak (Brooklyn, N.Y.) swished two free throws to take the lead. C.W. Post maintained the lead for the remainder of the game and led by as many as 12 points with 3:07 remaining in the first half.
 
The Golden Lions stayed in the game throughout the second half and closed the lead to within three (76-73) after freshman guard Connie Simmons (Syosset, N.Y.) and graduate guard Christie Marrone (Brooklyn, N.Y.) sank back-to-back three-pointers with 3:07 left on the clock. 
 
The Pioneers got help from Aiken, who answered with two made free throws at 2:48. The home team built its lead up to eight (81-73) after a layup from senior guard Jasmine Moore (Bronx, N.Y.) with 1:10 remaining. 
 
Aiken scored the game's final points with two free throws with one second remaining.
 
Moore finished the game with 18 points and nine rebounds and registered four steals. Sophomore forward Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) added 13 points while senior guard Gina Catherall (Bayside, N.Y.) added 11 rebounds and six assists with two steals.
 
Marrone led the Golden Lions with 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds with four assists and four steals. Simmons finished the game with 18 points while senior guard Janike Sundstrom (Helsinki, Finland) added 10.
 
The Pioneers held a 48-40 advantage in rebounds and scored 20 points off 18 Golden Lion miscues.
