BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 13, 2009) - C.W. Post Director of Athletics Bryan Collins announced Monday that Andreas Lindberg has been named head coach of the men's soccer team.

Lindberg, who becomes the 12th head coach in the program's history, takes over a program that posted an overall 9-7-1 record last season under former head coach, Dieter Ficken, who retired after 29 years of service to the collegiate men's soccer community.

“Coach Lindberg had tremendous success within the Long Island University system where he was head coach of Long Island University-Southampton,” Collins remarked. “He has tremendous recruiting abilities at the local and international level and his desire and passion to be a coach at Long Island University-C.W. Post and his familiarity with the East Coast Conference was the determining factor in his hiring. We look forward to Coach Lindberg building on the core of committed and talented student-athletes here.”

“I'm delighted about being back in the college game and I want to thank Coach Collins and the C.W Post Athletic Department for giving me this opportunity,” commented Lindberg. “I earned my bachelor's degree as well as my MBA in the LIU school system and I have close connection to the campus and its alumni.

"C.W Post has a great soccer tradition and I am looking to capitalize on that tradition and build a program that can compete for the ECC title on a consistent basis and the campus, alumni and the community can be excited about.”

Lindberg previously served as head coach of the men's soccer program at LIU-Southampton from 2002-05. Lindberg posted a cumulative 30-14-7 record during his three-year tenure at Southampton. He led the Colonials to the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference championship in 2002 and was a runner-up in the ECAC tournament.

Lindberg also assisted current C.W. Post women's head coach, Mark Dawson, with the Southampton women's program in leading the Colonials to the second round of the 2004 NCAA Division II Championships as well as an ECAC championship.

In addition to his duties as C.W. Post men's soccer head coach, Lindberg is currently a head coach at the Met Oval Developmental Academy, member of the USSF Developmental Academy. He has been a member of the staff since 2007 and is responsible for coaching and training top-level 15-18 year olds in the tri-state area and communicating with United States National Team scouts.

The Hampton Bays, N.Y. resident also serves as the regional site director of the Hamptons for Future Stars Summer Camps, where he manages and supervises up to 500 kids weekly who participate in the camps.
