Box Score
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 12, 2009) – The C.W. Post men's soccer team led American International College 1-0 with under 15 minutes remaining, but the Yellow Jackets rallied to score two goals in a five minute span and came away with a 2-1 victory on an overcast Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action.
C.W. Post slips to 2-3 overall with the loss, while AIC evens its record at 3-3 overall.
The Pioneers scored first in the 25th minute as Betim Bajrami (Helsingborg, Sweden) one-touched a passs to David Carlsson (Gothenburg, Sweden), who sent a ten-yard shot into the lower left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.
The score remained 1-0 into the halftime break, and C.W. Post continue it's strong play, just missing on several scoring opportunites. American International finally got on the board in the 76th minute of play, as Emile Barnett intercepted a Pioneer pass and sent a cross from the right side across the goal to Thomas Denomme, who's five-yard shot tied the game at 1 apiece.
Less than four minutes later, at 80:56, Barnett struck again, as he scored the game winner on a five-yard shot of his own, from a 10-yard cross, again from the right side, this time from Prince Ojok.
The Pioneers threw all the offense they could muster at AIC in the final minutes of play, but C.W. Post came away with a hard-luck loss to the Yellow Jackets despite outshooting their opponents 20-13 and holding a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
Graduate student goalkeeper Shane Flanagan (Dublin, Ireland ) made four saves in the net, while his AIC counterpart Ryan Brooks-Newman also stopped four shots.
C.W. Post will be in action on Tuesday, September 14, as they travel to St. Anselm in a 4 p.m. matchup.
