Field Hockey Shuts Out Franklin Pierce, 2-0

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 13, 2009) – Behind stifling defense and timely scoring, the C.W. Post field hockey team rang up its first victory of the season, a 2-0 blanking on Franklin Pierce, on Sunday afternoon on Hickox Field.
C.W. Post improves to 1-3 on the season while Franklin Pierce drops to 1-5 overall.
After a scoreless 30 minutes of play, the Pioneers finally got on the board, as sophomore midfielder Amanda Miller (Newton, N.J.) took a feed outside the right side of the circle and sent a pass across the goal to junior forward Amanda Nann (Hamburg, N.J.) Nann dribbled once and sent a reverse stick shot into the corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, C.W. Post would double its lead as Nann sent a corner feed to the top of the circle to Vicky DeRosa (Wading River, N.Y.), who sent a shot into the lower left corner past Raven goalie Brittany Nyzio for the 2-0 Pioneer advantage.
C.W. Post took 14 shots to FPU's 2, and held a 12-3 edge in penalty corners. Nyzio saved four shots in the loss.
The Pioneers are back in action on September 17 as they travel to Shippensburg at 4 p.m.
