OAKDALE, N.Y. (Sept. 19, 2009) –
The C.W. Post men's soccer team gave Dowling College a run for it's money, but the Golden Lions pulled out a 1-0 victory over the Pioneers in the second overtime period on Saturday night in the East Coast Conference opener for both teams.

Dowling improves to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in ECC play, while C.W. Post slips to 2-4-1 overall and 0-1 in conference action.

Dowling jumped out in the first half by outshooting the Pioneers 7-1, but C.W. Post settled in during the second half and matched the Golden Lions with three shots apiece during the second half of play, but neither team was able to find the back of the net, ending regulation deadlocked at 0-0.

After a scoreless first overtime where neither team managed a shot on goal, Dowling's Steven Schneider finally tallied a score in the 106th minute, taking a pass from the right side from Ajani Jones and sending a 10-yard shot past Pioneer goalkeeper Shane Flanagan (Dublin, Ireland).

The Pioneers were outshot 12-4 and Dowling also held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.  Dowling keeper Chris Kucera made two saves in the win, while Flanagan made three saves.  Junior midfielder Kevin McPhillips (East Williston, N.Y.) led C.W. Post with two shots.

C.W. Post is off until Thursday, Sept. 24, as they travel to Caldwell College for a 4 p.m. non-conference matchup.
