Colern Named PSAC East Field Hockey Athlete of the Week
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Sept. 28, 2009) - C.W. Post junior goalkeeper
Cortney Colern (Barker, N.Y.) of C.W. Post is this week's PSAC East Player of the Week after her efforts in goal helped the Pioneers to a double-overtime upset of fourth-ranked Kutztown this past weekend.
It is the first time this season a Pioneer field hockey player has earned Athlete of the Week honors.
Colern made a season and career-high 17 saves to help lead C.W. Post to a double overtime 4-3 win over No. 4 Kutztown on Saturday for the Pioneers' first PSAC East victory of the year. Of her 17 saves, eight came in the overtime periods, including six in the first and two in the second. After allowing three goals in the first 48 minutes of the game, Colern became a wall in the latter half of the second period and the overtimes, as she did not allow a goal for the final 44:26 of the game. Colern also made three saves in a tough 1-0 non-conference loss to Adelphi last Wednesday.
Colern and the Pioneers host PSAC East foe Millersville on Wednesday, September 30 at 4 p.m. on Hickox Field.
