Early Scoring Propels Men's Soccer Past Bloomfield, 3-1

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 8, 2009) – C.W. Post scored two early first-half goals and the Pioneers shut down Bloomfield College for a 3-1 victory in non-conference men's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon.
C.W. Post evens its record at 2-2 overall, while Bloomfield slips to 0-4.
Kevin McPhillips (East Williston, N.Y.) lofted a corner kick that
Leron Haywood (Rosedale, N.Y.) headed home into the upper left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead just four minutes and six seconds into the game.
The Pioneers doubled their lead at 12:13 when
James Stevenson (Brighton, England) one-touched a deflected shot in front of the net and sent it past a diving
Steven Alonso (Kearney, N.J.).
Coming out of the half with a 2-0 advantage, the home team increased their lead to three goals as
Emanuel Messina (Lynbrook, N.Y.) beat a defender and tapped a ten-yard shot in the lower left corner of the net.
Bloomfield was finally able to get on the board as Evans Tageo (Newark, N.J.) sent a header from five yards out into the high right corner of the net, but it was too little too late for the Deacons as the Pioneers closed out the 3-1 victory.
Graduate student
Shane Flanagan (Lattingtown, N.Y.) made one stop in goal to earn the victory and improve to 2-2 on the season.
Alonso made ten saves in the net for the Deacons.
C.W. Post is back in action on Saturday, September 12 as they host a non-conference matchup against American International, slated for 2 p.m.
