Cross Country Men Post Eighth Place Finish, Women 18th at Disney Classic

ORLANDO, FLA. (Oct. 10, 2010) – Both men and women's cross country teams competed in the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic on Oct. 9. The men's team eighth place finish was led by sophomore
Christian Altamura (Seaford, N.Y.) who ran one of the fastest times the school has seen since the early 1990s (25:39). The women finished 18th out of 25 women teams.
Altamura's time was good enough for an overall 13th place finish among individuals, setting his own personal record. Sophomore
Matthew O'Keefe (East Rockaway, N.Y.) and freshman
Joseph Lasher (Seaford, N.Y.) also set personal records on the Disney course. O'Keefe would finish with a time of 26:33, good enough for a 47th place finish. The personal record time of 26:45 would land Lasher in an individual place of 53rd. Other finishers included graduate student
Vincent Giambanco (Muttontown, N.Y.) in 29th place with a time of 26:07, as well as sophomore
Thomas Speicher (Levittown, N.Y.) finishing in a time of 27:17 for 65th place. The men finished eighth out of a field of 21 teams.
On the women's side, the Pioneers averaged a time of 21:01.60 per female runner. Sophomore
Caitlin Smith (Levittown, N.Y.) would be the first C.W. Post female runner to finish the 5k course, as she placed 91st with a time of 20:28.
The Pioneers will take off next weekend but will be back in action Oct. 23 as they will take part in the St. Joseph's Invite.
