BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 11, 2010) – Senior forward Amanda Nann (Hamburg, N.J.) scored the game-winning shot on a penalty stroke with 3:34 remaining in overtime to lift No. 6 C.W. Post over No. 10 Millersville University in PSAC East field hockey action Monday afternoon on Hickox Field.

C.W. Post improves to 7-4 overall and 1-2 in division play. Millersville slips to 6-7 overall and 0-3 in division play.

Millersville jumped to an early lead in the first half when Champayne Hess entered the game and scored on a 15-yard shot out front on a pass up the middle from Brittany Troutman in the 16th minute.

The Pioneers evened the score in the 21st minute when senior forward Amy Lillis (Holtsville, N.Y.) chipped in a shot from two yards out on a left side pass from Nann.

C.W. Post went ahead in the game minutes later when freshman forward Carlee Dragon (Bridgewater, N.J.) fired a shot from out front that clinked off the left corner of the goal, giving the Pioneers a 2-1 lead that would take them into the halftime break.

Both teams struggled to put another ball in goal for the next 31 minutes of play and it looked as if C.W. Post would walk away with the win until Millersville's leading scorer Emily Woodland accepted a two-yard pass from Ashley Weber and dribbled around senior goalkeeper Cortney Colern (Barker, N.Y.) before tapping the shot into the lower left corner.

The teams played out the final minutes of regulation and kept busy keeping the ball out of their defensive end. As time expired on the clock, a penalty was called against C.W. Post in the box outside the cage and Millersville was awarded an opportunity to put the game away with a penalty stroke from Melissa McCarthy. McCarthy's shot was on goal but was batted away by Colern.

In the extra frame, both teams fired away at each other's goals for 11 minutes and change to no avail. Dragon's shot from 20 yards out was high and out of bounds and the Marauders shot two times on goal with one going wide and the other saved by Colern. The Pioneers knocked the ball out of their territory and moved the ball down the field, setting up for Nann's penalty stroke.

C.W. Post outshot Millersville 16-12 in the game. Millersville had a 13-4 advantage on penalty strokes, including eight in the second half.

Colern, who made her second start in goal after missing time due to an injury, made six saves in goal to preserve the win.

Sara Dickinson made three stops in the cage for the Marauders.

C.W. Post is back in action on Thursday, Oct. 14 for a non-conference tilt against Limestone at 4 p.m.
