Men's Soccer Falls To St. Thomas Aquinas in OT, 2-1
ORANGEBURG, N.Y. (Oct. 16, 2010) – Daniel Davren scored the game-winner for St. Thomas Aquinas one minute and 46 seconds into the first overtime period as the Spartans handed C.W. Post men's soccer bitter 2-1 loss on Saturday evening in East Coast Conference men's soccer action.
The Pioneers bump to 5-6-1, 2-2 in conference play, while STAC improves to 11-1, 4-1 in the ECC.
After 75 minutes of deadlocked scoreless play, C.W. Post took the lead as
Joakim Ohlson (Lund, Sweden) scored on a header coming off a long throw in by
Eirik Bjoernoe (Randaberg, Norway).
But the Spartans fought back with a goal of their own at 82:26, as Joseph Conolly scored on a throw-in assist by Daniel Davren, and the game remained deadlocked for the rest of regulation time.
Davren scored on a Sean Reilly assist at 91:46 to give St. Thomas Aquinas the victory.
Both teams were relatively even in shots and corners, with C.W. Post taking 9 shots and three corners and STAC taking 8 shots and 3 corners.
Freshman goalkeeper
Marco Jorgensen (Copenhagen, Denmark)played the first 48 minutes of the contest making one stop, before giving way to
Ed Shone (Liverpool, England)who played the last 51:45, allowing both goals and making one save. STAC net minder Andrew Tartara made six stops in between the pipes for the victory.
The Pioneers are in action on Thursday, Oct. 21 as they travel to Molloy College for a 3:30 matchup.
