No. 16 Women's Soccer Handles Mercy, 3-1

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 23, 2010) – C.W. Post continued its winning streak with its fifth victory in a row as the women's soccer team downed Mercy College, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon in East Coast Conference action.

The victory improves the Pioneers to an overall record of 10-1-3 (5-0-1 ECC), while Mercy moves to 6-8 (2-4 ECC).

The Pioneers struck first at 12:09 into the game as freshman forward Alexa Niciforo (East Islip, N.Y.) found the back of the net on an unassisted tally.

The 1-0 lead would remain until just before halftime when senior defender Anna Svensson (Stockholm, Sweden) doubled the lead, scoring off a rebounded shot for a 2-0 Pioneer advantage.

The Pioneers would add to the lead in the 67th minute as freshman forward Lauren Bischoff (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) scored on a header from a Danielle DeLuca (Islip, N.Y.) cross.
Mercy would score in the 71st minute to break up the shutout, on a penalty kick by Andrea Nash.

Junior goalkeeper Allie Weiser (Grand Island, N.Y.) made four saves in the effort, and visitors outshot the  Mavericks 17-7 and took three corners compared to none for the Mavericks. 

Next on the schedule, the Pioneers will tackle nationally-ranked Kutztown University on Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 3 p.m. on the road.
