No. 16 Women's Soccer Handles Queens, 2-0

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 30, 2010) – In a matchup between the two teams tied for first place in the East Coast Conference, the 16th ranked Pioneers came away victorious as they posted a 2-0 victory over Queens College to earn the top seed in the upcoming ECC Championships.
C.W. Post improves to 11-1-4 overall and 6-0-1 in conference play, while Queens slides to 10-6-1, 5-1-1 in ECC action.
Although Queens College had the first legitimate scoring opportunity of the game, as Kirri Bolton sent a cross to Sarah Boucher, who blasted a shot at
Allie Weiser (Grand Island, N.Y.). But Weiser deflected the ball and senior defender
Anna Svensson (Stockhom, Sweden) cleared it out.
Scoreless through one half of play, C.W. Post finally took got on the board at 66:11 as the ball passed through several players on the right side of the field before
Tove Eriksson (Helsingborg, Sweden) gained control a bit outside the 18-box after a slide pass from
Jessie Gianatti (Southington, Conn.). Eriksson took two touches and placed a shot into the upper left corner past a leaping QC goalkeeper Allison Breakey.
A minute and a half later, Eriksson connected on a low corner kick that slid through several defenders to the left side of the goal, where
Qaroline Nahl (Kumla, Sweden) finished with a shot into the lower left corner.
The Pioneers would not relinquish the lead as they took control of the game and held Queens to only two shots the rest of the way. For the game, CWP held a 16-8 edge in shots and a 6-3 edge in corners. Weiser made three stops in the shutout, while Breakey made nine saves for the Knights.
C.W. Post will host the #4 seed at home on Friday at noon in the opening round of the ECC Championships.
