CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Aug. 30, 2010)- The East Coast Conference released its preseason poll for the 2009 season, ranking C.W. Post second in the conference. The Pioneers trail rival University of Bridgeport by just four points, and picked up two first place votes.  In addition, senior defender Anna Svensson (Stockholm, Sweden) was voted as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

C.W. Post fills the No. 2 spot on the poll after finishing the regular season with an overall record of 12-6-1. The Pioneers earned their third consecutive ECC Championship tournament berth after winning the ECC Championship title in both 2007 and 2008.

A three-time ECC All-Conference selection, Svensson started in 19 games for the Pioneers and helped to stabilize the defense that led the conference in goals against average and least goals allowed while ranking second in shutouts.  University of Bridgeport player Linda Velaj received the honor of being Preseason Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.

The Pioneers kick off the 2010 season on the road as they travel to American International to take on UMass-Lowell in their season opener at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2.
