Men's Soccer Tabbed To Finish First In ECC Preseason Poll
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Aug. 30, 2010) – The C.W. Post men's soccer team was the top vote-getter in the East Coast Conference preseason poll after receiving six first-place votes, the conference announced on Monday.
The defending ECC Champions totaled 62 points to lead the field of eight teams. Dowling College received two first-place votes to finish with 56 points. The University of Bridgeport was third (41) followed by NYIT (40), Molloy College (33), Queens College (24), Mercy College(19), and St. Thomas Aquinas (13).
The Pioneers were named ECC Tri-Regular Season Champions in 2009 finishing conference play with 5-2 mark. They earned the third seed in the ECC Tournament and defeated the second-seeded University of Bridgeport Purple Knights 1-0 in the Semifinals. After battling top-seeded Dowling to a scoreless draw, the Pioneers captured the crown with a 6-5 victory in penalty kicks to finish the 2009 campaign with a 12-5-2 overall record.
