C.W. Post (1-3 overall) took an early 1-0 lead as David Carlsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) scored on an assist from Joakim Ohlson (Sweden), but Pena scored back-to-back goals within a five minute span, one at 6:13 and one at 11:30, to take back the lead and give Merrimack a 2-1 advantage.

Despite the strong pressure applied by the Pioneer offense, as they outshot the Warriors 20-10, the Pioneers were unable generate any consistency on offense and Merrimack took a commanding lead after two goals within ten seconds of one another by Nelson Santos and Robbie Savadoz. Merrimack padded its lead at 61:23 on an unassisted goal from Evan Burokas.
The Pioneers managed one final score in the game as Rumen Kerekov (Sofia, Bulgaria) converted a penalty kick at 72:36, but that was all the comeback the visitors could muster as they fell by a final score of 5-2.
The Pioneers got three saves from freshman keeper Marco Jorgensen (Copenhagen, Denmark), who played the first 63:31 before giving way to Victor Muntean (Westbury, N.Y.) who played the final 26:29 and put up a scoreless sheet in the net.
