Men's Soccer Falls to Franklin Pierce, 6-2

RINDGE, N.H. (Sept. 2, 2010) – The 16th-ranked Franklin Pierce Ravens scored four unanswered second-half goals to break a 2-2 halftime tie and earn a 6-2 victory over the C.W. Post men's soccer team in the season opener for both squads on Thursday evening on Sodexo Field.
The Pioneers open their season at 0-1 while Franklin Pierce improves to 1-0.
The Ravens took a 1-0 lead as Jeff Hay (Dudley, Mass) scored on a scramble in front of the net following a corner kick, directing a rebounded shot past Pioneer goalkeeper
Ed Shone (Liverpool, England).
The Pioneers evened the score with a goal at 24:21, as
Daniel Hawkins (Randaberg, Norway) took a pass from
William Lindberg and redirected in from ten feet in front of the net into the back of the net.
C.W. Post took a 2-1 lead in the 36th minute as
Rumen Kerekov (Sofia, Bulgaria) scored an unassisted goal on a 15-yard chip into the upper part of the net.
However, Pierce responded with the equalizer at 40:58, as Amory Houghton (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) scored on a header.
Coming out of the halftime deadlock, Victor Goncalves (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) gave the Ravens a 3-2 lead on an unassisted free kick from 18 yards out, sending the shot into the upper left corner of the goal.
Shaun Taylor (Isle of White, England) scored on a one-touch shot off a Samuel Kelley (Bedford, N.H.) shot to give FPU a 4-2 lead at 59:51, and two more Raven goal in the last twenty minutes of play put the game out of reach for the Pioneers.
Shone made two saves in goal as he took the loss for C.W. Post, which outshot Franklin Pierce 22-16 and held a 10-3 edge in corner kicks. FPU goalkeeper Vinny Papageorgiou (Wilmington, Mass.) made eight stops in goal to earn the victory for the Ravens.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday as they take on Southern New Hampshire on the road at 1 p.m.
