Box Score
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 12, 2011) - The No. 3 C.W. Post men's soccer team battled to a 2-2 draw with Northern Boulevard rival New York Institute of Technology on Wednesday afternoon in East Coast Conference action.
The Pioneers saw their winning streak end at 11 on Wednesday but kept their unbeaten streak intact as they move to 11-0-1 on the season and 3-0-1 in the conference. NYIT now stands at 8-2-2 and 2-1-1 in ECC action.
The teams played a scoreless first half, as NYIT held a slight edge in shots, 5-4.
NYIT was able to strike first in the 59th minute when Matthew DiDonna took a pass from Vinny Caccavale and sent a high bouncing shot over
Marco Jorgensen (Copenhagen, Denmark) who had come out to play the ball. DiDonna's shot sailed high and bounced into the top of the net for a 1-0 lead.
But the Pioneers went on the offensive end, and in the 67th minute,
Kieran Mercer (Brighton, England) sent a pass to
Eirik Bjoernoe (Randaberg, Norway) out of the left wing. Bjoernoe crossed the ball and found the head of
Cemil Turan (Staten Island, N.Y.), who redirected it into the lower left corner for the equalizer.
NYIT took just over one minute to answer the Pioneer goal with one of their own, as DiDonna found the back of the net again, this time on a high shot into the upper left shelf past Jorgensen's outstretched leap.
The 78th minute saw the Pioneers respond yet again as Turan took a close-range shot from the left side of the box that rebounded off the post to the feet of
Andreas Olson (Oppeid, Norway) who sent an 8-yard shot past a diving Liam Waddy for a 2-2 score.
NYIT and C.W. Post managed only one shot apiece in the first regulation, and two apiece in the second overtime. Freshman forward
Eivind Austboe (Stavanger, Norway) narrowly missed the game winner in the waning moments of the second OT stanza as his header near the right center of the net sailed high.
Jorgensen recorded eight saves on the night as the Pioneers outshot the Bears by a 24-16 margin. Waddy registered five saves.
The Pioneers look to return to the win column as they take on Mercy on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 2:30 p.m.
