Andreas Lindberg Named Head Coach of Brooklyn Knights
MASPETH, QUEENS (Oct. 12,2011) - C.W. Post men's soccer head coach
Andreas Lindberg has recently accepted a coaching position with the Brooklyn Knights of the USL Professional Development League. This position will be in addition to his duties as head coach of the men's soccer team.
“We are excited to have Andreas begin as head coach of the Brooklyn Knights,” said Knights President Jim Vogt. “As a player, then coach who came up through the Met Oval system, we give him full support in this venture and expect some great results.”
Lindberg is in the midst of one of the finest seasons in the men's soccer program history, as the Pioneers are 11-0-1 and ranked third in the nation by this week's NSCAA Division II poll. Since taking over as head coach in 2009, Lindberg has quickly pointed the program in the right direction, winning an ECC Championship and earning Coach of the Year accolades in his first season. The Pioneers have qualified for the ECC Championships in each of his first two seasons and are primed for a return to the conference championships as well as an NCAA run this season.
“I am excited for this opportunity,” said Lindberg. “I am looking forward to continuing the success of a team that I played for, this time as a coach.”
A former player for the Brooklyn Knights, Lindberg captained the team in 2006 before retiring from playing. The team plays its home games at the Metropolitan Oval in Maspeth, competing in the Mid Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference.
