BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 15, 2011) – The No. 8 Kutztown Golden Bears field hockey team managed a 3-2 victory over the No. 7 C.W. Post Pioneers earlier today on Hickox Field.  The Golden Bears earned the win even though the Pioneers attempted more shots and produced more corners during the game.

During the first half, the Pioneers managed to out shoot the Golden Bears by a 10-3 advantage.  However, neither team was able to put one in for a goal.  Kutztown's goalie, Emily Falko, made six of her seven saves in the opening half.

The scoring opened up during the next half with just over five minutes elapsed.  Jamie Koenig earned the first score of the day when she took control of an Imani Ferguson shot that bounced off the post into the stick of Koenig.  She then took control and put her shot into the middle of the cage.

C.W. Post responded almost exactly nine minutes later with Carlee Dragon's (Bridgewater, N.J.) 18th goal on the year.  Dragon to a cross from the right side of the field by Lyn-Marie Wilson (St. Michael's, Barbados) and put the shot into the bottom left corner.

Koenig struck again during the 58th minute of play, as the sophomore forward put in her second goal of the game and eighth of the season with shot from about eight yards out.

The Pioneers kept up the aggressiveness despite the deficit and found the game-tying goal off the stick of Amanda Miller (Newton, N.J.).  Miller put in her first goal of the season as Helene Bruckner (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) sent a deflected pass to the middle where Miller was able to put the shot into the bottom right corner of the goal.

Just nearly a minute later during the 64th minute of play, the Golden Bears found the net again for the third and final time and proved to be the game-winner.  Erin Reynolds took the honor with the game-winner, taking a shot from five yards out that found the back of the cage.

For the game, Falko made seven saves in goal for Kutztown.  The team also took eight shots and produced eight corners.

Devon Trenkle (New City, N.Y.) made one save on the afternoon, taking the loss in goal for the Pioneers.
C.W. Post drops to 8-6 overall on the season, with a 3-5 conference record.  On the other side, Kutztown takes home a 9-6 record with an even 4-4 PSAC East record.

The Pioneers will be back in action on Oct. 19 for a 4 p.m. home game against Millersville.
