No. 3 Men's Soccer Shuts Out Mercy 1-0

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 15, 2011) –Andreas Olson (Oppeid, Norway) scored the only goal in the 6th minute, and the Pioneers made the score stand up as the 3rd-ranked C.W. Post men's soccer team defeated Mercy 1-0 in an East Coast Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.
C.W. Post improves to 12-0-1 and 4-0-1 in conference play, while Mercy moves to 5-7-1 and 1-4 in ECC play.
Olson's goal was set up by sophomore
Jonathon Watkin (Doncaster, England), who dribbled past a defender at the top of the box, cut back and passed to Olson, whose shot sailed past Mercy goalkeeper Nick Papas.
The game was scoreless the rest of the way despite an even barrage of shots from both team, and C.W. Post held a slim 17-16 edge. The Pioneers also owned a 9-4 advantage in corners.
Papas made eight saves, while C.W. Post goalie
Marco Jorgensen (Copenhagen, Denmark) stopped six shots in earning the shutout.
The Pioneers look to continue action on Tuesday, Oct. 18 as they travel to Nyack for a 3:30 p.m. matchup.
