Women's Soccer Nets a Goal in Each Half in Win Over Mercy, 2-0
Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 15, 2011) – The C.W. Post women's soccer team won its third consecutive contest today with a 2-0 conference victory over the Mavericks of Mercy. The Pioneers found the net once in each half and only allowed three Mercy shots during the game.
C.W. Post now pushes its overall record to 7-4 on the year that includes a 3-2 conference mark.
Sophomore forward
Janine Ambrogi (Greenlawn, N.Y.) got the Pioneers on the board first with an early goal. Ambrogi took a cross from the right side off the foot of
Prudence Rydstrom and put a deflected shot into the lower right corner to give C.W. Post the early 1-0 lead over the Mavericks.
The Pioneers created three more shots during the opening half and did not allow Mercy to get off one shot before the break.
Elsa Klarin (Lund, Sweden) gave the Pioneers a little more breathing room on the scoreboard with her second goal of the season during the 52
nd minute of play. Klarin took two touches after gathering a low cross from
Alexa Niciforo (East Islip, N.Y.) on the left side and put the goal in to give secure a 2-0 lead.
Goalkeeper
Allie Weiser (Grand Island, N.Y.) needed to make only one save to preserve the shutout, her third of the year.
The Pioneers took 12 shots during the game, hold a 12-3 advantage in the category over the Mavericks. Mercy did hold a 5-3 advantage on corner kicks despite the loss.
Next on the schedule for C.W. Post is a home non-conference match against Philadelphia. The game is set for Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m. on the campus of C.W. Post.
