No. 1 Bloomsburg Edges Out No. 7 Field Hockey In OT, 2-1

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 21, 2011) – The seventh-ranked C.W. Post Pioneers held a 1-0 lead early in the second half but could not hold off No. 1-ranked Bloomsburg University as the Huskies rallied back to win, 2-1, in overtime in a PSAC East field hockey clash Friday afternoon at Sports Stadium.
Bloomsburg improves its overall record to 17-0 overall and 11-0 in the PSAC East. C.W. Post, who has an outside chance of qualifying for the PSAC tournament, falls to 9-7 overall and 4-6 in the conference.
The game-winning goal was scored 1:30 into the overtime frame when Brittany Mathews fired a shot into the right side on a pass from the left from Amanda Riley.
The teams played a scoreless first half before the Pioneers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 42nd minute when freshman
Lyn-Marie Wilson (St. Michael's, Barbados) redirected a shot from the 25 in front of the net on a penalty corner. Senior defender
Helene Bruckner (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) assisted on the play.
The Huskies answered back minutes later at 45:31 as Nicole Bruce picked up a loose ball and rebounded a shot taken by Amanda Riley into the goal.
Bloomsburg outshot C.W. Post, 9-6, and held a 15-5 advantage on penalty corners.
Senior
Devon Trenkle (New City, N.Y.) made six saves in goal – all in the second half. Meghan Hollenbach made three stops in goal for the win.
